Trekkers Program

Beye Trekkers

What is Beye Trekkers?
Beye Trekkers is a voluntary weekly lunch program designed to encourage students to build endurance and cardiovascular health by running and/or walking. This is not a track or racing program, but a commitment to stay fit. The emphasis is on distance over time, not speed. The program is open to K-3rd graders (Junior Trekkers) and 4th-5th graders (Senior Trekkers).

When does it start?
The program begins on Wednesday, September 12th. The K and 5th graders will run/walk during their recess from 11:00-11:25 am, and 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th will run/walk from 11:25-11:55 am. The program will continue each Wednesday throughout the year, weather permitting.

Participants need to wear gym shoes, and, in cold weather they will be required to keep their jackets on. On winter days, hats, scarves and gloves are a good idea. Participation is voluntary and students do not need to participate every week.

How does it work?
On Wednesdays, parent volunteers and I will supervise and track the number of laps students complete around the sidewalk the borders Beye School. Each lap around the school is roughly ¼ mile long (4 laps = 1 mile). Students will earn fun incentives as they log miles and stay fit (e.g., plastic shoe token for every mile completed).

How can you help?
We are greatly in need of parent volunteers for the 11:00 – 11:25 slot. If you could work the entire hour, that would be fantastic! Please contact me at 524-3070 or email me at trocco@op97.org (quickest way to reach me).

We look forward to trekking through an awesome year at Beye with your children this year!

Mr. Rocco
