Wellness Focus: Nutrition

Hello Beye School Bobcats! This trimester we will be focusing in on nutrition during our Physical Education Classes. The students will learn all about calories and will play a game called, "Calories In, Calories Out." In this game the children learn how to read nutritional labels, find out how many calories are in different types of food, making healthy decisions, and lastly determining how much exercise it takes to burn those calories. In addition to this activity our students will play games focusing on the myplate, learning about foods that are good for our heart, brain, and muscles. It is very important that we eat a healthy balanced diet during these winter months to help keep us from getting sick, maintain a healthy weight, and keep our bodies strong. Lets make it another great trimester Bobcats! Mr. Rocco

Walk to School Day a success!!!!!!!!

International Walk to School Day Recap On Wednesday October 9th, Beye School participated in the annual International Walk to School Day celebration. This day is all about celebrating some of the benefits that come from walking to school, such as exercise and reducing pollution. This year we were lucky enough to have four of Oak Park –River Forest High School’s finest football players, including two former Beye students (Sam Cottingham-Beard & Talin Chambers) stand on the corners and stamp/congratulate the students hands as they walked to school that morning. In addition to our football players, we also got a visit from our own Bobcat mascot, as well as Dibs, the official mascot of the DePaul University Blue Demons. Please go to the Beye School website to see more pictures from International Walk to School Day and remember, “It’s Great to be a Bobcat!” Mr. Rocco

International Walk to School Day!

International Walk to School Day!

October 9, 2013

Why do we walk to school?

To enhance the health of kids

Increased physical activity can combat a host of health problems facing kids today.
To improve air quality and the environment

Replacing car trips to school with walking or bicycling can help reduce air pollution.
To create safer routes for walking and bicycling

Sidewalks, education programs and traffic calming measures are some of the ways to improve conditions.

Remember to walk to school Wednesday, October 9th, to celebrate International Walk to School Day. Those students that walk on this day will earn an "I walk" stamp to wear on his or her hand for the day. Students who don't have the option of walking will be able to earn a stamp during their lunch recess that day.
